What is Telemark ?
A traditional skiing discipline, telemark originated in the Telemark province of Norway in the 19 th century.
Telemark as we know it today was created thanks to the know-how and ingenuity of carpenter Sondre Norheim.
Inventive at heart, Norheim constructed some strips of wood to help him get around his chalet in the village of Morgedal. What he did differently, however, was bend his knees to turn, making the skis converge and then swivel. In this way, Sondre made the first turn in the history of modern skiing. He also invented sidecuts to make turning easier and leather bindings. A short while after, in 1868, Sondre participated in the Iverslokken competition, which he dominated by using his jump turn technique, landing with his knees bent, which is a characteristic of the discipline.

Free heel, free spirit
Telemark is defined by the heel of the skier detaching from the ski, enabling them to bend their leg inwards every time they turn.
Unique and elegant, telemark has been making a comeback in recent years, finding itself in the limelight of competitions. Since 2006, it has also been successfully connected to freeride and freestyle.
